In 2019 we found a reasonable resort in a nice setting run by a Gambian, who had spent 25 years in Germany. This year we came back and enjoyed this idyllic place for a week with our 2 friends from Germany. We find Picca Laa is a good alternative to the big resorts on the beach, with lots of nice birds inside the camp or in easy walking distance. In the Gambia it is not easy to maintain European technical standards. Water is scarce, but electricity is O.K., the room are easy to keep clean and very big. Food is good, cold drinks are available. Within an hours drive all birding destinations along the coast and a bit farther inland are within easy reach so one can stay for a comfortable week without having to pack and move every day.
