Guaramiranga and the Serra de Baturite

The mountain village of Guaramiranga is the touristic centre of the Serra de Baturite, about 100km
south of Fortaleza, which is still partly covered with atlantic rain forest. And rain forest means rain! Some days several times a day!

It was impossible to dry our wet clothes in our damp bungalow. But still we liked the atmosphere
of Alto da Serra touristic complex. We were lucky we were not camping!

 Jacafruits grow on big trees.

I was lucky to discover a Squirrel cuckoo and get a good shot:

The forest ist full of bromelias and other strange-looking plants:

Heliconia:

I suspect the yellow plants are parasites because they seem to lack chlorophyll.

The Rufous-bellied Thrush (Turdus rufiventris) is the national bird of Brazil.

The village of Guaramiranga:

Pale-legged Hornero (Furnarius leucopus)

Syaca Tanager (Thraupis syaca)

Red-necked Tanager (Tangara cyanocephala) and Yellow-chevroned Parakeet (BrotogerisChiriri) (right).

Blue Dacnis (Dacnis cayana)??
This tyrant has a bright yellow belly:
Tropical Kingbird (Tyrannus melancholicus)

White-headed Marsh-Tyrant (Arundinicola leucocephala)
Red-cowled Cardinal (Paroaria dominicana)
Variegated Flycatcher (Empidonomus varius)

Sayaca Tanager (Thraupis sayaca)
Bananaquit (Coereba flaveola)

Social flycatcher (Myiozetetes similis)
All birds were new to me and I am sure I must have made some mistakes in identifiying them so I am grateful for any corrections! Many thanks to Dr. Hermann Redies whose help was crucial!
Marcelo Holderbaum put me right on some species I could never have sorted out myself.
