Senegal, January 2024: La Somone, Bandia and boat trip on lagoon.

We travelled from The Gambia overland to Senegal, crossing the big river on the bridge at Farafenni.
At the border we met Mbodj, or Senegalese friend and driver who took us to the luxury hotel at the coast
La Somone. What a change, after the camps in The Gambia! Eva and I spent two times 4 nights there. It is here that we welcome our guests (the "Africa Shock" comes later!) and say goodbye to those who fly home.

Little walks in the back streets and gardens of the village produce nice pictures:

Black-crowned Tchagra

Beautiful Sunbird

Red-billed Firefinch

Palm Swift

The boat trip with Cheikh Ndoje is always a pleasure!

Green Heron, Mangrovenreiher

Curlew, Großer Brachvogel

Malachite Kingfisher

Purple Heron

Here impressions from the safari in the BANDIA reserve:

Eva discovered the invisible Painted Snipe, Goldschnepfe

Namaqua Dove, Kaptäubchen

Bandia is famous for its antilopes and other game that are bred here to support the shriniking populations in the wild.

sadly the two rhinos at Bandia have not produced babies until now

Our guide Ahmadou (he speaks excellent German!) and one of the two rhinos.
